This is why I don't ride the bus

Metro is unreliable. And stinky. And not really cheaper than driving when there are 3 of us.

Tonight we took the bus to downtown to watch the fireworks from some random dude's deck on Western Avenue. The views were awesome, and the crowd interesting enough. Hightlights include a jealous twit and a smooth-talking finger shaking guy in a suit. Oh, and the rainbow socks, those were cool too.

So after the fireworks ended we walked to the bus and got on. All was uneventful until we got to the Fremont/Greenlake area where there was a huge crowd waiting to get on. Suddenly the bus began to smell and we had two characters sitting behind us. It took about an hour to get through a few block area because of all the traffic and the cops directing it. The whole time there is a running commentary from the guys behind us on the color of the light, whether or not there was an accident ahead, and at least 6 times, the location of the end of the bus route.

It wasn't long after breaking free of the traffic that a family broke the bus. They got stuck in the door or something trying to get off, and after that the bus wouldn't start. Sure, it could be a coincidence, but I still blame them. We had to walk from a slightly sketchy neighborhood, along a busy road, under the freeway, and the entire length of the mall to get back to the car at the park n' ride. At 1 am. And we didn't get our $1.50 back.

That's why I don't take the bus.
