Awesome: blackberries (the phone, for it's awesome navigation button that's fun to use; the fruit, for it's use in pie or cobbler, on ice cream or in vodka drinks, etc.)
Not Awesome: the blackberry plant. A thorny, invasive plant. Did I mention thorns?
It was Seattle Works Day today, a one-day community service event in the city. It works like a charity fun run, but instead of running, involves volunteering for a few hours and raising money for Seattle Works, an organization connecting young professionals to the community. It even had an after party with free beer and a not-so-good band. Had a great time at that, but before then spent a few hours clearing blackberries and holly from Ravenna Park. In case you didn't know, both blackberries and holly have serious thorns. And those thorns get grumpy when you try to yank them out of the ground. In the end we were more powerful than the berries, but ask E about the broken shovel that lost to the holly tree way back in the woods there.
