wedding scams

This whole wedding planning thing has been one continuous lesson in figuring out what's really important. There are a million and one things you "must do", "everyone does", or that make it a "real" wedding. I think E and I have navigated this pretty well, and consciously chosen elements of our celebration that will make it the most meaningful for us.

Today we are approximately 19 days away from hosting the biggest party of our lives. I have worked hard to make this party reasonable, but also really fun. I still have a long to-do list, which did not include second-guessing my registry and wondering if I'm woman enough to know what's appropriate and what my guests will want to buy me. Frankly, the whole wedding registry/gift receiving part of this is pretty stressful.

So I was sad to get a looooooong phone message from the registry lady at Macy's today. She just wants to make sure I have carefully considered my registry, and it still reflects what we are looking for. Have I considered adding a luggage set? (no). How about some additional casual china? (no thanks) Or really, fine china that is dishwasher safe for those really special occasions with family and friends? (no, really). Maybe some additions to our towels? (we're good, thank you anyway). It went on and on like this.

Generally I like Macy's, but seriously, I've never been so glad I didn't answer my phone. And my registry is fine, right? We have successfully traveled before, so we don't need luggage. We picked casual china from another store (gasp!), and will someday have some of my great-grandparents fine china so didn't feel the need to ask for more. And everyone I know is making fun of the towels, so should I really be considering adding more??? No, thank you Macy's, but this bride is going to ignore you on this one and focus on our marriage, our family and friends, and celebrating both in a few short weeks without regard for gifts people are under no obligation to give in the first place.
