Went to Neil Diamond this weekend in Vancouver. Going to Canada is always an experience. As E says, Eddie Vedder says it best when he says that Canada is like your grandma's attic: a lot of it looks familiar, but every so often you come across something and have to say "what the fuck?".
Here are a few "what the fucks" from this weekend.
Coffee. They don't know how to order it there. E asked for two 16oz coffees. The lady looked at him funny, then pulled out two cans of coffee for home brewing. A manager came over, and explained coffee only comes in small, medium and large, and not to ask any of them how much coffee is in any of them, because none of them know. Then found out (too late) that if you want cream or sugar in the coffee, you must ask a the time of ordering. Don't expect to have self-serve cream or sugar packets available.
The New Amsterdam Cafe. Enough said.
Blinking green traffic lights.
Walking for miles on Saturday afternoon and passing about 850 pizza stands. On the way to the concert, wanted pizza and there was not one to be found anywhere.
Hotel without a bathroom or remote control for the flatscreen tv.
The Loonie Plus store. Ketchup flavored chips.
Local Canadian wine called Dirty Laundry Woo Hoo
Magazines that cost $17.95
Neil Diamond not playing Coming to America. Come on Canada, you can appreciate that everyone really wants to come to America, right?
